Dr. Katherine Melzer-Ross was raised in Brooklyn and attended Stuyvesant High School. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Human Biology from Stanford University. Ever since attending her first birth as a medical student, she has always known that providing care to women is where her passion lies. Her special interests include early embryo development, fertility preservation, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.

Q: WHY DID YOU BECOME A REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGIST?
A: I knew I wanted to be a physician from an early age. I had always imagined I would become a pediatrician, but during medical school I found that I really connected with my female patients. The joy of working with pregnant women and delivering babies inspired be to pursue training in OB/GYN.
Q: WHO INSPIRES YOU?
A: My two children inspire me as they bring joy and laughter into my life every day (despite testing my patience at times). My hope is for my patients to be able to find similar joy and laughter in their lives.
Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
A: I enjoy skiing, going to the theater, trying new cuisines, and spending time with my husband and children.
Q: WHAT IS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT WOULD SURPRISE MOST PEOPLE?
A: I never drank coffee before I had kids, beware of what you wish for!
Q: WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO HELPING PATIENTS?
A: I feel that the physician-patient relationship has evolved significantly in the last decade. Whereas doctors used to dictate care, it is best to have a partnership with your patients. I like to educate my patients and give them the information they need so that we can make the right choices together as a team.
Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?
A: I like to think of myself as outgoing and adventurous. I like to pay attention to detail. When faced with a challenge I like to focus on the bigger picture. I like to be optimistic but also realistic.
